The decision by America to join World War II had an immediate impact on the economy. According to the Library of Congress (n.d), millions of men joined the forces, with some working in industries where they made weapons to supplement the war. This move immediately dropped the unemployment rate from 25% to 10%. The demand for labor rose, pushing women to join industries that produced weapons and agricultural products used by the soldiers. The result was an internal migration to work in sectors that set up economic bases. These economic bases picked up after the war. Lewis (2007) posited that the manufacturing industries, agriculture, and improved wages to workers were the backbone of the economic uprising in the U.S.A.
