Yoga, according to Yogic philosophy, is the union of life forces inward to achieve the happiness that lies from within. To achieve this kind of happiness, one has to get rid of the impurities of mind by practicing the four paths of yoga, namely Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, Raja yoga, and Jnana yoga, which leads one’s mind to the truth.
Karma yoga refers to action yoga towards social service. It encompasses taking action without expecting any reward, hence relinquishing any fruits or attachment to the outcome of the action. The yoga redirects ego, purifies the heart, and achieves oneness with all individuals through selfless action. Bhakti yoga is another path of yoga. According to Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres & Ashrams (2020), it is the yoga of devotion. It involves surrendering to God to achieve the highest truth by channeling one’s emotions into devotion, growing humility, surrendering, and becoming an instrument of use to the Devine.
