Weighing the Evidence

Essay Instructions:

In this Discussion, you focus on one of the research articles that you identified for Part 2 of the Course Project (Literature Review). You then explore the process of how the researchers generated conclusions based on their data, consider other possible interpretations of their data, and formulate ideas for further research
Read sections of the chosen article where the data is presented, analyzed, and interpreted for meaning. What reasoning process did the researchers use to formulate their conclusions? What explanation did they give to support their conclusions? Were there any weaknesses in their analysis or conclusions?
Consider possible alternate conclusions that the researchers could have drawn based on their data.
Examine the findings that the article presents and consider how well they addressed the researcher’s initial question(s). What additional research could be done to build on these findings and gain a fuller understanding of the question?
Polit, D. F., & Beck, C. T. (2012). Nursing research: Generating and assessing evidence for nursing practice (Laureate Education, Inc., custom ed.). Philadelphia, PA: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
Post a brief summary of the research article that you selected. Describe the data and the results of any statistical tests or analyses presented in the article. Explain how the researchers formulated their conclusion, any weaknesses in their analysis or conclusions, and offer at least one alternate interpretation of their data. Propose at least one additional research study that could be done to further investigate this research topic.

Introduction
In a precise summary, the paper addresses and highlights the effectiveness of the Chlorhexidine gluconate method of bathing as compared to the normal method where soap and water is used by a patient. Studies reveal how infections are transmitted through this method including clothes that are contaminated within a health facility (Bleasdale, Trick, Gonzalez, Lyles, Hayden, & Weinstein, 2007). The high rates at which bacteria’s spread leaves patients prone to unplanned illnesses thus forcing health personnel’s to look for decisive interventions that would be effective in mitigating the spread of such infections.
According to sources acquired through the paper, this infections have been the causative reasons for long stays in hospitals by patients, with increasing costs on how to combat their spread. It was therefore revealed through studies that CHG reduces the rate of bacterial infections, and this could explain the associated depletions experienced in the spread of the infections (Bleasdale, et.al). This paper therefore seeks to interpret the data relayed from this study and formulate articulate approaches for future research.
Description of the Data
According to the paper, a qualitative study was carried out by Padula (2012) and was used in assessing the effectiveness of the CHG in the mitigation of the infections as opposed to the traditional approach of bathing. The results of the study revealed depletion in the infection rates within a health facility. Patients within the CHG intervention wing according to the results of the study were less likely to acquire infections brought in by BSI (Bleasdale, et.al). The results viewed 500 patients’ days and also disclosed the incidence difference in the contraction of these infections. The protection against the BSI infection by the use of CHG for cleansing was done after a period of 5 days in the Intensive Care Unit.
Another study that was carried out on the infections that were prevalent among the ICU patients revealed that the chances of contracting MRSA were minimal due to the introduction of the CHG as a remedy to the contraction of infections. The introduction of other approaches such as hand washing was also identified in the studies as means of managing the situations within the health facilities (Bleasdale, et.al). The results of these tests clearly indi...
