Even though, the study was conducted in Europe the study can be replicated in diverse situations. Previous studies have highlighted the likely benefits of vitamin C and E in improving oxidative stress, where the antioxidant has been found to be effective in preventing diseases. However, the study the researches highlighted past studies in the introduction section and did not include the background section. To determine the effectiveness of vitamin C supplementation, the researchers pointed out that researchers have hypothesized that the benefits of vitamin C supplementation depending on whether the individuals have low antioxidants/ high oxidative stress levels.
In the study’s research design there were 100 male respondents who participated voluntarily in the study, and there was a 12-h overnight fast before collecting vitamin C levels from the blood samples (Paschalis et al., 2016). Three of the 100 participants were excluded for having vitamin C deficiency. The study was a placebo-controlled crossover design focusing on aerobic exercises (Paschalis et al., 2016). The participants in the low vitamin c group and high vitamin C group were given a placebo and vitamin C before and after exercises.
The study results/outcomes Vitamin C supplementation was effective in increasing the V02 max levels among the participants with low vitamin C. since the vitamin c reduced oxidative stress its supplementation is potentially beneficial in improving physical performance.
The research by Paschalis et al (2016) is of good quality as the article linked the study’s aim with the results with the findings, with reports that lower vitamin C concentration is associated with higher oxidative stress, but then supplementation is effective in reducing the oxidative stress. Similar studies also support the findings that oxidative stress associated with exercise, and there is a nee...
