Training Offered During the Implementation of a New Information System
For the last few decades, many hospitals have been implementing a new information system to facilitate the effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare services. In particular, electronic health records (EHRs) make it easy for physicians to record patients’ data and retrieve it anytime they want it, particularly when analyzing or diagnosing an individual’s health condition. However, when implementing a new information system, an organization should provide relevant training to employees, such as nurses, so that they can understand how to use it. The paper focuses on the kind of training that is provided in my organization when a new information system is implemented.
In my organization, the administration offers real-time and hands-on EHRs training to nurses. Specifically, nurses are allowed to participate in the development of a new system and give specifications to ensure that the system fulfills their needs. Once the system has been designed and ready to use, caregivers are trained on how to use it (Chaghari, Saffari, Ebadi, & Ameryoun, 2017). For example, they are taught how to enter patients’ data correctly. The real-time training gives nurses an opportunity to ask questions and interact with the system to ensure that they understand all its functionalities.
In the digital era, many people know how to use a computer since they acquire these skills in schools. Nevertheless, when it comes to the use of a new information system, the management team should not assume that everyone is conversant with it. For this reason, my organization provides basic computer skills to employees so that they can understand how to use EHRs and other relevant applications optimally (Vest et al., 2019). That way, individuals know how the data flows in a system and how to enter it correctly. Most importantly, nurses understand that EHRs record information in the manner it is entered, which means that if the system has the right input, it gives correct output.
