1.How does mitosis differ from meiosis?
Mitosis and meiosis create new cells and follow the same steps starting with one parent cell, but there are differences. Mitosis is the division of a single cell nucleus to produce two identical daughter cell nuclei, which are essential in cell division (Marieb & Smith, 2016). Mitosis occurs in four phases: prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. The outcome of mitosis is two daughter cells with the same amount of genetic material there is one nuclear division in mitosis, but there are two nuclear divisions in meiosis. Meiosis is a cell division process that produces gametes with half the normal somatic chromosome complement where the gametes contain 23 chromosomes (Marieb& Smith, 2016). Meiosis occurs in meiosis I and II where meiosis I has prophase I, metaphase I, Anaphase I and telophase I. Meiosis II has prophase II, metaphase II, anaphase II and telophase II. The outcome of meiosis is four cells with half the genetic material.

The circulating levels of estrogens and progesterone control changes in GnRH pulse frequency. Estrogens increase the GnRH pulse frequency, and progesterone decreases it.Gonadotropes are the cells that produce FSH and LH, and at one pulse frequency, the gonadotropes respond and secrete FSH, and at another frequency, the cells release the LH. The FSH and LH production also occurs in pulses based on the rhythm of GnRH pulses.When GnRH is absent or supplied without pulses, FSH and LH secretion tends to stop for a time (Marieb& Smith, 2016).
