Summary of learning style according to VARK questionnaire
The inference drawn from the VARK questionnaire is that my learning style can be described as multimodal with strong aural and visual preferences. To break this down in the context of an educational setting, it means that I like converting notes into small manageable chunks. For instance, I would reduce some three pages of notes into points fitting in just about half a page by reducing the word into chunks that I can quickly memorize and recall the content. Further, in the classroom setup, I prefer to listen rather than to take note. According to this learning style, I prefer to discuss learning material and other topics with my peers. By so doing, I am likely to understand the subject matter more and retain the knowledge learned. In the practice setting, I respect my seniors and facilitators. I tend to ask questions respectfully. I also enjoy participating in meetings and workshops where the primary mode of learning will be listening.
The visual learning preference helps supplement my aural learning style. In most situations, I like summarizing what I learn through sketching images and charts where applicable. Additionally, I try my best to try different spatial arrangements for what I learn to understand more concretely. Drawings and symbols are also great ways in which I reduce what I learned into visual representations. In practice sessions, I like representing ideas visually through images and drawings. In addition, I enjoy reducing complex tasks into simple flow charts or diagrams so that the retention rate is more.
Preferred Learning Strategies
The dual coding style is my preferred learning strategy. Dual coding is a strategy that involves a combination of images that are illustrative in nature with accompanying words. The accompanying words are relevant to the illustrative image. An exemplification of this style is a situation where I look at an image that contains written descriptions or a situation where I look at an image while listening to a description of what the image is all about. Therefore, I prefer to look at images and the accompanying descriptive text or audio to draw connections that I can then retain in my memory with this style.
