The evidence-based practice (EBP) project is focused on examining the suitability and effectiveness of non-pharmacological approaches such as physical activities in managing and controlling depression among adults in healthcare facilities. The development of an individualized exercise program would help individuals in managing their moods and thoughts. To evaluate and measure the outcomes of the EBP project, it is important to collect both dependent and independent variables that would be utilized in the project. A dependent variable relies on the factors being measured and can change depending on the manipulation of the independent variables.
One of the main dependent variables that would be collected from the project is the health impacts of depressed adults in rehabilitation centers undertaking structured physical activities. Ideally, this variable is essential because the depression status of the patients can be examined before, during, and after engaging in individualized physical activities. The health outcomes, in this case, would include the extent of depressive symptoms, the ability to control one’s moods and negative thoughts. Empirical evidence shows that inability to control negative moods and thoughts would affect one’s mental health status (Bowen et al., 2017). The other dependent variable that would be considered is the level of satisfaction that exercises would have on both patients and nurse practitioners. This non-pharmacological intervention would only be considered effective if it would perform as better as antidepressant medication.
