At this critical time characterized by nursing development, key organizations globally call for nurses to be more involved in advocacy, policymaking, and leadership. The value of health policy and leadership training cannot be overemphasized. Nevertheless, nurse’s widespread training and education concerning policy are yet to be actualized (Turale & Kunaviktikul, 2019). As an advanced practice nurse, I would increase my participation in healthcare policymaking to support patient advocacy by developing my attitudes, skills, and knowledge about policy, conducting health policy research, and enhancing my networking capabilities.
At the core of not being sufficiently involved in policy and advocacy is the educational gap about these crucial issues. To take my place at the decision-making table and be more engaged within reform and policymaking, I need to improve the requisite skills, attitudes, and knowledge.
