An interdisciplinary approach incorporating team members play a key role in a healthcare organization’s strategic planning. For instance, the C-Suite in a healthcare organization plays a vital role in creating and executing the strategic plan (Erwin et al., 2019). The hospital executives led by the CEO define the fine details of the strategic plan. The C-Suite determines where the organization is, where it is going, and outlines the plan on how to achieve the vision (de Paula & Peiró, 2012). Through the C-Suite, the rest of the organization understand the strategic plan and how to accomplish it. The board of directors' role is oversight over the strategic planning process (Erwin et al., 2019). The board holds the C-Suite responsible for accomplishing the strategic plan. It also assists in thinking about issues that the management may not have considered. For example, they help define the resources and how they should be distributed effectively in the strategic planning process (Erwin et al., 2019). In collaboration with the C-Suite, the board monitors the execution and progress of the strategic plan.
The physicians and general employees also play an important role in the healthcare organization's strategic planning. Physicians and general employees can provide input on issues affecting their jobs and work environments (de Paula & Peiró, 2012). For example, physicians working in A&E recognize specific matters and decisions that would enhance the running of the department. While they may not have sufficient knowledge about strategic planning, their contributions and input can help the C-Suite make informed decisions affecting various healthcare organizations' departments. Additionally, physicians and general employees should be included in strategic planning to have a clear picture of where the organization is going and their role (de Paula & Peiró, 2012).
