Statistical interaction refers to the effect of a variable on the outcome or dependent variable across the level of another independent variable (Fitzmaurice, 2000). In health sciences, it refers to the situations where two or more risk factors modify the effect of each factor depending on the level of the outcome. To determine the statistical interaction, one needs to take into consideration how the presence of various factors affects outcome individually and together. As such, statistically interaction is associated with the independent variables modifying the effect measure.
