Purpose
The purpose of the graded collaborative discussions is to engage faculty and students in an interactive dialogue to assist the student in organizing, integrating, applying, and critically appraising knowledge regarding PMHNP practice. Scholarly information obtained from credible sources as well as professional communication are required. Application of information to professional experiences promotes the analysis and use of principles, knowledge, and information learned and related to real-life professional situations. Meaningful dialogue among faculty and students fosters the development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives, and knowledge are shared.

Instructor and peer responses are due by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. MT. Students must post on a minimum of two separate days. A 10% late penalty will be imposed for discussions posted after the deadline Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. MT, regardless of the number of days late. Address the questions below specific to each of the standards you selected.
According to Standard 5A, the PMHNP functions as the single point of accountability for all medical and psychiatric services. Many PMHNPs are employed within psychiatric facilities and may be asked to complete the mental health intake assessment and the admission physical, as well as prescribe and monitor all medications during the inpatient stay. What are the scope of practice implications for PMHNPs providing both physical and mental healthcare, including prescribing considerations?
Standard 5B states the PMHNP evaluates health information resources, such as the Internet, in the area of practice for accuracy, readability, and comprehensibility to help healthcare consumers access quality information. As a practicing PMHNP, how will you respond to clients who request medications or treatments based on information they researched on the internet?
Standard 5D states the PMHNP prescribes pharmacologic agents based on current knowledge of pharmacology and physiology. PMHNPs are charged to keep current with evidence-based practice. New medications are frequently developed and released. What strategies will you use to remain current in your knowledge of new psychopharmacologic options for your clients? What resources exist to help you?

Integration of Evidence: Provide support from a minimum of one scholarly in-text citation in addition to the textbook.
Engagement in Meaningful Dialogue: Respond to a student peer and course faculty to further dialogue.
Peer Response: Respond substantively to at least one topic-related post by a student peer. A substantive post adds content or insights or asks a question that will add to the learning experience and/or generate discussion.
Faculty Response: Respond substantively to at least one question by course faculty. The faculty question may be directed to the student, to another student, or the entire class.
Professionalism in Communication: Presents information in a logical, meaningful, and understandable sequence that is relevant to the discussion topic

PMHNP standards are essential for high-quality mental health care. The standards establish a guide PMHNP uses to evaluate psychiatric and mental health by considering the outlined ethical framework. Standard 5B: Health Teaching and Promotions
Standard 5B is critical and guides the PMHNP to focus on suitable health promotion and teaching strategies. According to standard 5B, a nurse should provide health teaching to a group of patients to address possible mental issues and focus on suitable interventions such as relaxation, stress management, coping skills, and relapse prevention (American Nurses Association & American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2014). Besides, the standard advocates for integrating knowledge and evidence-based practices for high-quality care. The critical requirement of the standard is evaluating health information resources, including the internet, to assist the patient in acquiring accurate, quality, and comprehensive information.
Patients, in most cases, have access to health information from the internet. As a PMNHP, to address the clients who request treatments or medications based on their research on the internet, I would teach them the valid sources of the information on the internet and specify the need for relying on the primary information and medications instead of secondary ones. The key responsibilities of the PMHNP are educating the patients and providing appropriate recommendations (Townsend & Morgan, 2018). Therefore, considering standard 5B, I will use appropriate methods for teaching the clients, including practice concept mapping and questioning tactics to ensure that the patients utilize valid internet sources for acquiring effective information.
