Human beings go through various life stages, from infants, young children, adolescents, and adults. This essay is based on an interview with a middle-aged woman in her 50s, focusing on the impact of the stage of life on health care. There are physical and cognitive changes and even emotional development with infants at every stage, and, to some extent, older adults depend more on others. Older adults' health status tends to deteriorate as they age, and this affects health interventions and assessment. Considering the interviewee is in a transition stage to old age, her gender, overall health experience, and health care behaviors are considered.
Now more than ever before, the individual seeks age-appropriate health information as a middle-aged adult. While health professionals seem to know to provide health care services that meet the individual's needs, she has to ask more questions. This is further complicated by the lack of comprehensive health promotion that targets individualized care to improve the overall health outcomes. There was a concern about the lack of proper communication among health practitioners on how best to transition to older age may negatively affect health outcomes.
The interviewee is past managing fertility and having children, but she also requires more family support. Social isolation is a risk factor for deteriorating health outcomes and quality of life for older adults when no family and friends are living closely (Courtin & Knapp, 2017). This is further complicated by the adult children moving out and trying to establish themselves. Nonetheless, there is social support, and she recognizes and appreciates the need to involve the family members in medical decisions. The individual indicated that she appreciated the need to communicate more openly with the health practitioners and family members regarding health interventions to make informed medical decisions.
