Human beings have always been spiritual beings. In one way or the other, man has always tried finding a superior or higher being to look up to. It is what has always kept humankind moving. It has given people the belief and hope to keep moving. With the various religions across the world, everyone subscribes to his or her form of spirituality, as long as it serves them well. While faith can be something different for everyone, the commonality in all of it is that there is that unwavering belief in a higher being. My definition of spiritual care might be somehow different from mainstream teaching.
From a personal perspective, spiritual care is the process or activity of offering all the necessary forms of support and motivation to an individual, to enhance and sustain his or her spiritual life. It is, therefore, all the efforts to ensure that an individual is flourishing in their beliefs. It is quite interesting to note that once one's spiritual health is doing well, then their aspects such as physical health also improve immensely (Young & Koopsen, 2011). This means that the two are connected or intertwined to a significant extent. Providing spiritual support and care in any way can have a very huge impact on the day to day life of a person.
From topical readings, however, there is a different understanding of spiritual care. The readings interpret it as the collaborative efforts to pull people back to faith and strengthen their belief in it, through the reading of scriptures, fellowship, and prayers.
