Nutrients are majorly divided into micro and macro with their difference basing on the quantity needed in the body. Macronutrients are needed by the body in larger quantities, and they are noted for affecting the most activities such as metabolic system, fat composition, and cells make up, majorly categorized into fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. On the other hand, micronutrients categorized in the form of vitamins, phytochemicals, minerals, and antioxidants are vital in good health for body functioning, and the body requires them in small quantities. Ideally, there is a noted difference between micronutrients and macronutrients, in line with their importance when the body is either resting or during exercise.
Differences between Micronutrients and Macronutrients
Apart from the required intakes of both micronutrients and macronutrients by the body, greater differences are noted from their functions. According to Dustin (2017), he notes that macronutrients play a great role in providing carolies in energy, and enabling the healthy functioning of the cells. Similarly, fats are important in vitamin storage, regulating body temperature, insulating and protecting body and organs, building and repairing body tissues, and helping in the development of muscles. Similarly, Carbohydrates, which are always in the form of starch and glycogen stored as energy, are essential to the body immune system, cell membrane, and enzyme synthesis.
Conversely, Berdanier (2019) associates micronutrients with differing processes; for instance, hemoglobin synthesis helps a variety of ways, such as disease prevention, acting as co-enzymes, and participating in the respiratory process of the cells.
