FIRST READ TOPIC: VIEW "HOW TO MAKE WORK-LIFE POSSIBLE VIDEO" by Nigel Marsh, you can find it on YouTube
RESPONDED TO QUESTIONS:
1. WHICH IF MARSH'S FOUR TOPICS RESONATED WITH YOU THE MOST? AND WHY?
2. WE OFTEN TALK ABOUT WORK-LIFE STRUGGLES ONLY IN THE CONTEXT OF WOMEN. IS WORK-LIFE BALANCE IN FACR DIFFERENT FOR MEN THEN FOR WOMEN?
3. FINALLY, IS WORK-LIFE BALANCE POSSINLE, IN YOUR OPINION?
THEN MY RESPONSE TO TOPIC AND QUESTIONS:
In relation to Nigel Marsh's talk, a good life-work balance is possible to attain. Different people have different areas in their lives that they would like to fulfill. Success is relative depending on how a person was raised in the society. The problem is that majority of the people in society measure success with the amount of money that a person has at the time he/she does. Therefore, people work all their lives trying to get the much they can out of their jobs so as to have enough when they retire. According to Nigel, this should not be the case when considering the fulfillment of someone's life. That period in between work and retirement is crucial since it is the time that an individual can accomplish most in his/her life.
People need to approach the life-work balance in a balanced way. Most people do it by focusing on major changes that they need to make and neglecting the little things such as relationships with their loved ones. The neglect of some of the aspects in people's lives may lead to a non-fulfilling life. The things that are neglected in most lives are the little things that make life worth living. Another problem is that people almost always look for instant gratification of things. People want to get fulfilled in certain ways immediately and they are not willing to wait for things to happen. The time frame within which a person should want to attain balance in his/her life should be elongated. This will enable one to achieve much according to the desires that one has set for himself/herself. Giving oneself time to accomplish certain objectives will create a certain sense of gratitude, which was worth much more waiting for than the instant gratification. The society should also transform their way of thinking in order for the life-work balance to be attainable. This will all start when people change their perception of a proper life. Focus on money should not be the major issue of concern of the working class people.
The observation that resonated with me most in Nigel's presentation is the one of strengthening our relationships with others such as he did with his son. Reason being it is true what he says about the neglect we have of the relationships we have with others. The little things that we do to those close to us are the ones that matter most and give us a sense of fulfillment in our lives.  By doing good by them, we also make their lives better by revealing the humanity within ourselves instead of being like robots due to working for most of our days.
Work–life balance is different for men and women. The differences come about as a result of the different responsibilities we have in society. They require us to respond differently to our environments thus giving us different forms of responses for our situations. Handling these matters in diverse ways is what helps us unite as one community. The unique ways of solving our different matters make us contribute ideas, which will help the society evolve in their way of thinking. Therefore, men and women should not react in the same way to balancing life and work.
THEN MY CLASSMATES RESPONSE TO TOPIC AND QUESTIONS:
Of Nigel Marsh's four observations, the one that most resonated with me was number two, “Government and Corporations are not going to solve the issue for us”. I completely agree with this! I believe we live in a culture that functions on the basis of busy, therefore corporations expect employees to operate on a high-speed and long-hour work life. Therefore, work-life balance is not something typically offered on the list of job benefits when you are interviewing with a new company. I am one who craves work-life balance because family is so important to me and I believe you ultimately do better work when you are not burned out. I believe in working hard when you're on the job and that sometimes extenuating circumstances arise which may mean a late night at the office, however, if this becomes a pattern, burnout is certainly inevitable.
I believe that work-life struggles exist for men just as much as they exist for women. Men too are vulnerable to burnout, missing important family events, and feeling like their lives are primarily built around a job. I think men struggle with the balance between pleasing their employees and having meaningful and fulfilling relationships with those they love. Because our culture is wrapped up in a go, do, and be mentality, it is almost going against the grain to fight for work-life balance.
I absolutely believe that work-life balance is possible. I think it is so important to take a look at yourself and your life and determine what exactly work-life balance means for you. Does it mean going home at 5pm? Does it mean working part-time? Does it mean spending lunch breaks with your family? I also think it is important to look for companies and job opportunities that respect and encourage work-life balance. Look for the companies that know how valuable rest is and that it can ultimately improve job performance. I think work-life balance make take time and energy to achieve, but the more you value the concept, the more likely you are to find career opportunities that respect work-life balance.
THEN WHAT YOU WRITE: YOU MAY (BUT DONT AHVE TO USE ALL) CLARIFY A SPECIFIC POINT MADE IN CLASSMATES ANSWER, OFFER AN ADDITIONAL ARGUMENT TO SUPPORT A POSITION, SUGGEST WAYS IN WHICH AN IDEA COULD BE MADE MORE CLEARLY, IDENTIFY PASSAGES WHERE YOU THINK THE WRITER MISUNDERSTOOD A CONCEPT OR DISAGREE.PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR RESPONSE IS ON THE SAME VIEW AS MINE IS.

The main lesson about work-life balance is, “you create something you want by changing your attitude around it”. Many people are coming to realize that they are most productive when they are doing things out of love. Love comes from our relationships with our families, friends and colleagues and this can only happen if people were truly in a space of being true to themselves. We go through things, it’s not about being positive, it’s not about being negative, it’s about being authentic. People are coming to the deep epiphany that we, as individuals, manifest our own reality through our thoughts and intentions. The real change comes from the combined effort of all the little things that truly keep our humanity alive. As a quote from the “Lord of the Rings” by Gandalf say,
“Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay… small acts of kindness and love.”
