Describe the SDOH that affects the family health status. What is the impact of these SDOH on the family? Discuss why these factors are prevalent for this family.
Social determinants of health impact the health outcomes of a family. Further, the social determinants also affect the quality of life outcomes and risks. The Social Determinants of Health that affect the family health status include access to healthy food and physical activity opportunities, marital status, income, and social protection, support systems (Andermann, 2016).
Lack of access to healthy foods and physical activities is associated with various health risks such as hypertension and diabetes. Also, it can be associated with behavioral and emotional problems among children.
This issue is prevalent in this family because since the mother had an accident, the family hardly cooks healthy meals for the family due to the back injury and the emotional distress she is going through. The family eats cheap food three to four times every week. Also, the mother was diagnosed with hypertension and hypertension, while the father suffers from hypertension and high cholesterol. These conditions can be associated with the eating habits of the family (Andermann, 2016).
The marital status of parents affects children in those children living with both parents attain better outcomes. The issue is prevalent in the family as the parents have been separated for two years in as much as they live under the same roof.
Religion offers community support to a family. Through religion, a family gets informed on values (Adler et al., 2016). This social determinant of health is prevalent in this family as the mother says that the children no longer go to church as they used to since their father stopped attending church.
Social support requires that family and friends support each other in times of crisis (Garg et al., 2016). This social determinant of health is prevalent in this family as the mother stipulates that the father hardly sits with the family for casual conversation. Also, the father fails to offer emotional support to the mother because of the back injury and the stress from their separation.
Based on the information gathered through the family health assessment, recommend age-appropriate screenings for each family member. Provide support and rationale for your suggestions.
Health screening is essential for people of all ages. The screening tests are different depending on the age. Health screening is important for early detection and regular monitoring to control and treat any health condition (Adler et al., 2016). As people continue aging, the risk of certain health conditions increases, hence the need for regular checkups and screening.
