When trying to conceive or during pregnancy, there is no percentage or type of alcohol that is safe to drink. For this reason, expectant mothers should stay away from beer and wines since all of them are harmful to their developing embryos or fetuses. In particular, since alcohol goes direct to the bloodstream, it also passes to the fetus via the umbilical cord. Mothers who drink alcohol when pregnant have a high likelihood of getting a miscarriage or cause disabilities to the baby called the fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2018). The paper focuses on the core elements, as stated by the World Health Organization (WHO), which would enhance the enactment and implementation of a health policy to curb FASDs.
The first primary element entails engaging relevant stakeholders, such as the government, community groups, health insurers, donors, healthcare providers’ networks, and political parties, to help in eliminating the problem.
