Question 1
Comprehensive school-based health programs are a set of policies and practices catered to the wellbeing of students. They have been instrumental in the reduction of absenteeism as a result of medical conditions. This is achieved by assisting the eligible students and their family members with available health coverage, which will reduce medical costs and strains on the family. Another objective is to decrees the number of emergency room visits by offering students medical services and checkups. In the case of at-risk students, schools can manage their conditions up to the point where it is deemed necessary for advanced medical interventions in a hospital. Wellness and health programs through promoting healthy physical and nutrition activities act as prevention measures along with regular assessments. All this is in the interest of creating a healthy and positive school environment that fosters learning. Expanded school-based health programs involve more healthcare programs such as school nursing programs, counseling mental health programs, oral and telehealth services. The main weakness of this is the financing strategies that are dependent on the current restrictive political and fiscal climate. CITATION All97 \l 1033 (Allensworth D, 1997)
