Overview
I attended the ‘’New Horizon of Treasure Coast Race’’ which aimed at providing mental health and addiction recovery services though raising money. The program was held by the National Health Trends Corporation (NHTC) on 10/18/18, and it involved a 5-kilometer walk or ran at Mets stadium. Also, the program raised an amount of 20,000 for addiction and mental health recovery services. Therefore, the program helped in understanding the needs of the group and how the challenge can be reduced in the future.
Problem
Additionally, the program offered support for children and adults who live with mental illnesses. Generally, most people with mental health problems always think of suicide as the only option. According to Simon et al. (2018), most suicide cases which are reported in the US occur among people who abuse substances and have mental health problems. Therefore, the issue is a problem for the state and health agencies as it increases the mortality rates in the nation. Moreover, a nurse will benefit from the activity by getting an opportunity to interact with people from different places and appreciate their culture as people from different cultural backgrounds attended the event.
Solution
The problem was addressed by sharing ideas, offering support, and discussing relevant topics for those who had friends and family members who lived with mental illnesses.
