Abstract
Although medication errors in the operating room are inevitable, they can be eliminated through the development of proper nurse-physician relationships. In particular, an operating room consists of highly skilled healthcare professionals who have the same objective of improving patients’ well-being. For instance, pushing and rushing nurses in the surgery room is one of the significant causes of medication errors. Doctors should avoid stressing caregivers, and instead, they should come up with proper strategies to cultivate teamwork effectiveness. Some of the implications of pushing and rushing caregivers in the operating room include the increased hospital-acquired infections, cancellation of nursing licenses or job loss, and the spike of lawsuits that affect the reputation of a hospital adversely. The paper focuses on how physicians can foster safety in the surgery room to improve the safety of patients.
The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) standards prepare nursing students so that they can gain relevant knowledge and become competitive in their profession. Some of the primary competencies of QSEN include evidence-based practice (EBP), quality improvement, patient-centered care, informatics, safety, and teamwork and collaboration. In particular, the main objective of nurses is to provide high-quality care for their patients. These healthcare professionals do everything to ensure that sick individuals’ needs are fulfilled entirely. For instance, caregivers are concerned about how patients feel about a specific treatment. They make sure that the suggested treatment procedure aligns with a patient’s cultural and religious beliefs. When it comes to the improvement of the quality of care, nurses should use EBP to get accurate information and use it to take care of their patients. As such, QSEN standards enable caregivers to realize that they have a significant role to play to improve the well-being of sick individuals at the hospital. The interaction between doctors and nurses in the operating room significantly affects the safety of patients and the quality of treatment provided.
Physicians and nurses in the operating room should have a proper relationship so that they can create a conducive working environment. In reality, they all play significant roles during surgeries, and when they are not interacting well, they tend to jeopardize the treatment procedure.
