Safety in the Operating Room. Health, Medicine, Nursing Essay

Essay Instructions:

Paper 2 - Safety project paper using the QSEN standards for BSN nursing students: Choose a safety issue that you have encountered in the work place. Explore the depth and cost of the issue. Look at what is being done currently at your institution if anything, and what could you contribute to addressing this issue. This will take some research regarding the impact to your institution and possible effects on society. (Examples; falls, infections, medication errors, sentinel event, HIPPA violation, EHRS etc.) this will require you to talk to the Chief Nursing Officer or whom ever is in charge of the area your interested in addressing. Your final paper will incorporate the QSEN standards for BSN students. Quality and Safety are the two main focuses of this paper. You will collaborate with an expert in the area you are addressing. This paper should not be more than 10 pages in length and must include an abstract using 150 words or less.
You did awesome on my last essay then I got 98 out of 100! These are the main topics and some suggestions for this safety paper.
I would like to use the scenario of physicians rushing nurses in the operating room. When physicians rush nurses and push the time limits to make more money, they are putting patient safety at risk. The average cost of a surgery is $100 per minute in the OR. Obviously time is always sensitive and a factor with any surgery. However when surgeons overtly rush and push nurses to rush, this is when errors such as medication errors, wrong instruments for supplies being opened and wasted, charting errors, and major errors (called sentinel events) can occur. A sentinel event would include a surgery on the wrong patient or a surgery on the wrong site.
Repercussions of rushing and these errors occurring are hospital required infections, a patient suing, and a loss of nursing licenses/ job.
Please somehow include this in the paper as the main focus.
If you have any further questions please let me know.

Safety in the Operating Room
Abstract
Although medication errors in the operating room are inevitable, they can be eliminated through the development of proper nurse-physician relationships. In particular, an operating room consists of highly skilled healthcare professionals who have the same objective of improving patients’ well-being. For instance, pushing and rushing nurses in the surgery room is one of the significant causes of medication errors. Doctors should avoid stressing caregivers, and instead, they should come up with proper strategies to cultivate teamwork effectiveness. Some of the implications of pushing and rushing caregivers in the operating room include the increased hospital-acquired infections, cancellation of nursing licenses or job loss, and the spike of lawsuits that affect the reputation of a hospital adversely. The paper focuses on how physicians can foster safety in the surgery room to improve the safety of patients.
The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) standards prepare nursing students so that they can gain relevant knowledge and become competitive in their profession. Some of the primary competencies of QSEN include evidence-based practice (EBP), quality improvement, patient-centered care, informatics, safety, and teamwork and collaboration. In particular, the main objective of nurses is to provide high-quality care for their patients. These healthcare professionals do everything to ensure that sick individuals’ needs are fulfilled entirely. For instance, caregivers are concerned about how patients feel about a specific treatment. They make sure that the suggested treatment procedure aligns with a patient’s cultural and religious beliefs. When it comes to the improvement of the quality of care, nurses should use EBP to get accurate information and use it to take care of their patients. As such, QSEN standards enable caregivers to realize that they have a significant role to play to improve the well-being of sick individuals at the hospital. The interaction between doctors and nurses in the operating room significantly affects the safety of patients and the quality of treatment provided.
Physicians and nurses in the operating room should have a proper relationship so that they can create a conducive working environment. In reality, they all play significant roles during surgeries, and when they are not interacting well, they tend to jeopardize the treatment procedure. In some instances, doctors in the operating room push and rush nurses to do things faster so that they can attend to numerous surgeries and make more money. Notably, the average cost of surgery is around $100 per minute. For this reason, it is clear that time is a major factor in surgery, and that is the reason why physicians want things to be done in haste. However, when surgeons push and rush caregivers, the chances of making errors increase. In a surgery room, nurses should have a sober mind so that they can play their roles correctly and effectively. When they are rushed to do things, they are likely to get confused, which puts the life of patients at risk. Some of the things that might arise due to pushing ...
