Background of Study

The studies are relevant for educators and healthcare workers to understand the factors influencing self-management to promote the intervention effectiveness of DSME is evaluated by the extent to which there are improved health outcomes, use of diabetes self-care practices, and improve knowledge on diabetes management.

In the article by Allory et al. (2020), patients with diabetes type 2 were informed and recruited for those seeking consultation from the usual care provider, who had attended a DSME program. The responders were from a low-income area primary care providers catered to the patients. The researchers used semi-structured and in-depth interviews in 2017 to identify themes on program participation, facilitators, and barriers to DSME participation. On the other hand, Schwennesen, Henriksen & Willaing (2015) used semi-structured interviews to identify themes on nonattendance of self-management education, with the themes placed under the individual and organizational factors.
