The frontal lobe is the largest among the lobes of the brain, and it is responsible for working memory. It is the type of memory that serves as a medium for the short-term memory to be transcribed into long-term memory and allows it to be manipulated first before being encoded to the latter. The frontal lobe is essential in prompt decision-making and performing goal-directed behaviors because it helps organize the relevant information in the short-term process. This lobe is the last to mature among all the brain’s lobes, which usually reaches its maturity at twenty-five years old. Its significance in-memory storage has been proven by memory decline as the person ages, as evidenced by the decline in function in the frontal lobe (Nissim et al., 2017).
The prefrontal cortex has been accounted for executive functions, and studies have shown that this area perceives the sensory stimuli except those coming from the primary somatosensory area.
