The first topic that I chose is titled "Early life stress as a risk factor for mental health: Role of neurotrophins from rodents to non-human primates" and the second is titled "Early disruption of the mother-infant relationship: effects on brain plasticity and implications for psychopathology".
I chose two topics that are both connected to how an infant is introduced into his or her environment and how he is able to interact and learn through the immediate characters introduced during his early stage of life. Both topics are focused on the effects of initial factors present during the infant stage and how this could affect the life of the subject in his later stages or older years. These two topics highly regard that improper interaction with the mother and environment during early infancy may result to major health problems particularly in the mental and neural elements. I chose these topics because it has greatly sparked my interest in the field of how we should be taking care of the children who will be one day the new inhabitants of our planet. We should take into account how we should be interacting with them in order to raise the next generation into better citizens of the world.
The significance of the studies greatly lies on the information that they have gathered that shows the effects of care and environment in determining the outcome of an individual in his adulthood. Both studies provide us with important information that can be used to change our interaction with infants in order to bring out the best of them.
For the first study, "Early life stress as a risk factor for mental health: Role of neurotrophins from rodents to non-human primates", the focus is determining how the maternal-infant bond and stress in the early environment are significant in the growth of a healthy child.
