Ethics and equity play a significant role in shaping one’s personality and conscience. This applies to all the dimensions of life, including the practice of nursing. Nurses should adhere to the art drawn from ethics and equity. This shall allow for a better quality of care for the patients.
As a person, my core values and principles are God-fearing, kindness, diligence, family-oriented, persistence in succeeding in mind, openness for failure, honesty, and life-long learning. I adhere to these principles as I battle each obstacle of this life and to the decisions I make. As being part of the nursing art, I think I can apply these principles with the addition of public service and caring with the patients and their family members as the center of my practice.
Life-long learning is one of my values does not mean that I will get everything correct in one go but instead doing everything I can to continue and improve in my knowledge and competence. Getting things wrong leads to me to my weak points and help me concentrate more on it without neglecting to hone what I have or what I excelled in.
In the quiz, I committed some mistakes, and some of them are duty-based principles, prima facie, contract, action, and nonmaleficence. Duty-based laws formally oblige us to act in a certain way towards others regardless of the consequences, while prima facie duty is something you should do as there is no more substantial reason for not doing something different. With these two principles, we are obliged to do our responsibilities, especially for our patients, no matter who they are, when, and where.
Contract means that moral righteousness stems out from the societal agreement. According to this theory, one who lives in society is bound by the agreed ethical principles, while action talks about the act itself that is morally right for a community CITATION Soc20 \l 13321 (Social Contract, 2020). Based on these, nurses should adhere to moral ethics. This is to aid nurses in practicing with their morality intact in the future.
