According to College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) practice standards, nurses are accountable for the medication practices involving dispensing, administration, storing medication, management of inventory, and the disposing process. In a situation where I happen to have given a patient medication that the patient is allergic to this is how I will handle the situation. Being that I had earlier noticed the change in the patient’s medication, it is imperative to promote the patient’s safety by reporting this medication error and adverse reaction immediately to avoid any further effects to the patient.
