Leadership
One important concept we learned in class is leadership styles. Leadership is an essential aspect within the healthcare industry. Sfantou et al. (2017) recommend that leaders understand their leadership styles because it helps recognize one's strengths and weaknesses. Awareness of one's leadership style ensures that a leader can be more proactive by strategically employing one's strengths to counter the weaknesses (Sfantou et al., 2017). It is also through such realizations that the leader manages to connect with the subordinates.
An interesting aspect about this concept is that there are many leadership styles. For example, the transformational leadership style stood out as an effective leadership style. An important component of transformational leadership is the leader's ability to work with a team, recognize a need for change, develop a vision, and inspire the team to achieve the vision (Luzinski, 2011). Transformational leaders can motivate people to perform beyond their perceived abilities.
Transformational leadership is essential in healthcare organizations. With significant challenges in areas such as costs, delivery of care, and policy, healthcare organizations need effective leadership (Luzinski, 2011). Transformational leaders can shape, coach, and mold future leaders in healthcare. As leaders, they pay attention to what those they work with need and helps them to work towards those goals. Healthcare needs leaders who can envision and prepare for challenges that healthcare faces and work with others to address them.
I will use the information about this concept as a stepping stone to my future role as a leader. As an aspiring manager and leader in healthcare, I have learned significant information that I will incorporate to improve healthcare leadership. The information offers me the guidance and support I need to work towards my goal to be an efficient leader.
