Introduction
In the recent times, there has been much focus on the reconstruction of the US healthcare delivery system. There is much anticipation of positive changes in the different areas of the health care delivery. It is understood that the reconstruction of the healthcare delivery system is not based on assumption that there has not been any positive progress; rather, there is great aims of improving the conditions in the different areas concerned with healthcare delivery. This paper analyses the different changes and growth expected in nursing practice in a bid to address the changes in the different areas. There is also review of feedback obtained from discussion of the issues with colleagues.
The expected changes
Among the areas expected to be impacted by the reconstruction of healthcare is the aspect of continuum of care. It cannot be rightfully said that continuum care in the US has been a failure. There has been achievement of good health of citizens through the provision of healthcare through the continuum care. In those centers, there have been rehabilitation and therapies offered to people at progressive note. However, there is expectation of positive changes with the reconstruction of the health care delivery system. Much of the change is expected to orient to the inclusion of more of nursing services in the continuum care. This argument follows the realization that there has been limited inclusion of nursing services in the continuum care. The practice of nursing is therefore expected to change to include aspects of provision of the continuum services in such a way that the nurses are able to provide such service in a progressive manner.
The practice of nursing is expected to change to be able to accommodate the needed advancements in the Accountable Care Organizations. This denotes a kind of health care provision model whereby; the nurses as well as the other healthcare providers are fully incorporated in ensuring provision of quality and affordable healthcare service. The health care practitioners are motivated through tokens of what has been achieved. In this way, they are expected to put more efforts in provision of the affordable quality health care. There is expectation of positive changes in the ACO. This view emanates from the realization that there is anticipation of more inclusion of the nurses in the ACO models. At times, there has been engagement of the other healthcare providers in the ACO models while the nurses are left out. The nurses must therefore be brought into practice that can allow them to smoothly engage in the ACO.
Nursing practice must also orient to the needs of medical homes. With the efforts of reconstructing the health care system, there is an expectation of increment of the medical homes. The aim is to decongest the hospitals to allow only the cases that need to be addressed in hospital to be addressed there. The medical homes are expected to flourish especially with increased utilization of nurses services. The nurse managed health clinics are expected to expand and become more common.
