Education is known and appreciated world-wide for its transformative purpose, which enables it to facilitate individual and communal growth thus leading to the much-anticipated progress. College education is extremely vital to any given society. It allows youths to specialize into various professions that enable them to contribute to the needed growth of the society without forgetting the progressive impact that is reflected on the governance and leadership. The above reasons support the much-held notion that college education should be free in various nations around the world to facilitate progressive and development-oriented nations and societies.
The common trend right now around the world is that the inflation that is being experienced has led to increases in tuition fees that are being paid by the student to access higher education in various institutions. Government loans and unsubstantial subsidies have helped to worsen the situation thus making college education to be the preserve of the few society members who have the financial muscles to pay their required fees and other associated costs. The above observation leads to the first argument in favor of free college education since the student loans being advanced by the governments and other institutions have led to the accumulation of debts. The students benefiting from the loan programs are extremely few since the government is not able to advance loans to a larger population due to the fear of the accumulation of debts. Research shows that the actual cost of education is considerably low if the government can come up with mechanisms of funding it straight away instead of using the tuition system. Statistics shows that the government can spend around $127 billion to facilitate free public college education as opposed to the expensive mechanism where $35 billion is spent on pell grants. The sum of $104 billion is being spent on student loans thus amounting to $137. In this regard, the access to higher education shall be boosted as well as ensuring that the problem of the accumulation of student loan debts is addressed adequately. This is to enable the college graduates to concentrate on building their futures debt-free.
Poverty, income inequalities, and other economic hardships make it hard for certain group of citizens to access higher education due to their inability to pay the tuition fees and other associated costs. These hardships mean that there are many people around the world who can’t access colleges since they cannot foot the cost of education. Some of these individuals might be having the best brains that can lead to future innovations and inventions. Such discoveries are essential in helping the world to advance and progress in terms of technology, governance, and economic prosperity.
