Introduction
My name is Yalda Rawan, 28 years old from Kabul, Afghanistan. I am, and I have a seven-year-old daughter. Currently, I am a registered respiratory therapist, working in Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C. I have a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). After high school, I went to a medical school in Afghanistan for three years. However, on coming to the U.S., I discovered that the academic system is different from that in my home country, Afghanistan. Hence, I have to get a bachelors for four years.

Besides, my parents have played a critical role in inspiring me to become a doctor. My mum was a professor at the University of Kabul, where she taught biology. My father is a medical doctor. My parents encouraged me even if I failed; I could always rise and start all over again.
The Motivation for Learning Medicine
I must admit that apart from the desire to assist people, I have always been fascinated by the human body. The human body remains a remarkable machine that has various systems working together to form an organism that cannot be made artificially. Additionally, I love working on challenging things. Medicine is one of the most challenging careers. It takes time and devotion to qualify as a medical doctor. Some of the courses can be difficult, which means that a student has to make the extra effort.
Reasons for Applying for a Medical School
I have decided to apply for a medical school here in the U.S. so that I can improve my skills. I have felt that studying in a medical school for three years in Afghanistan is not sufficient to enable me to achieve my dreams. Additionally, Afghanistan has suffered for the last 30 years because of an ineffective healthcare system and the lack of qualified healthcare professionals. Lastly, getting an opportunity to study in the U.S. would be critical in applying...
