Reflection
Although it may not look like the future is already upon us, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical procedures and practices is already happening. Ethical Dilemmas in AI in Healthcare
Artificial intelligence's introduction into the healthcare industry brings many complex moral problems requiring careful thought. Protecting patient privacy and data security takes precedence over all other issues. The necessity to protect the privacy and security of this information is further highlighted by AI's intrinsic reliance on enormous amounts of patient data. Inadequate performance in this area could lead to illegal access, data breaches, and the potential exploitation of sensitive patient data, jeopardizing confidence in patients and data fidelity. Additionally, the threat of unfairness and bias stands large since AI systems may unintentionally acquire biases from the data they are instructed on (Sun & Medaglia, 2019). This ingrained bias can extend gaps in healthcare outcomes, increasing already-existing imbalances in the healthcare structure if it is not actively handled.
Finally, the complexity of AI systems creates issues with accountability and transparency. These algorithms' complexity might hide their decision-making techniques, making it challenging to understand how and why particular healthcare decisions are made. Due to the potential for patients and healthcare providers to be left in the dark about AI-driven medical suggestions, this opacity raises serious ethical problems.
AI Replacing Human Practitioners
A complex and divisive topic, influenced by many circumstances, is whether AI will someday replace human healthcare providers. While there is no denying that AI has made tremendous strides in activities like data evaluation and medical diagnosis, it is doubtful that AI will completely replace human healthcare workers like doctors and nurses. The current trajectory, however, indicates that AI will instead serve a complementary role, enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals by providing vital assistance in areas like evaluation, planning for treatmen...
