Pulmonary fibrosis is a lung condition that occurs when an individual’s lungs are damaged or scarred. Scar tissues often form around the lungs, making it difficult to take in, hold and release air efficiently. As the condition worsens, the patients become increasingly lightheaded and have repeated shortness of breath. This essay is a summary of an Active Learning Template System Disorder on Pulmonary fibrosis. It analyzes the diagnosis, pathophysiology factors, prevention, risk factors, and patient-centered care.
Diagnosis for Pulmonary fibrosis can be conducted using invasive and non-invasive procedures. Signs and symptoms include repeated shortness of breath, inspiratory crackles, and a chronic cough. The patient can also experience flu-like symptoms. Pathophysiology problems include the inflammation of alveoli, to which fibrous connective tissues gradually replace the resulting injury.
