The family therapy that will be discussed in this paper involves a problem at home between both parents and their eldest son. The clients that will be focused on in this paper will be the mother and the son. The mother is 43 years old, working as an accountant for more than a decade while also being a responsible homemaker to her husband and three children. Their eldest son included in the family therapy is 14 years old and had been a recipient of school awards for academics and sports during his previous academic school years but is now having problems both at home and in school. Both clients do not have any pertinent medical conditions.
Based on the history taking and overall family therapy, the diagnosis for the son is adjustment disorder with disturbance of conduct due to the presence of a psychosocial stressor. Another diagnosis made is generalized anxiety disorder for the mother. The son performs well academically at his previous school but problems started when they moved to another state.
