With the increase in technological advancement in education, nursing educators constantly search for ways to expand nursing opportunities by facilitating 'on-demand' individualized training. However, most institutions are yet to find the best digital education model that will help increase students' engagement, satisfaction and overall performance in their clinical studies. The use of digital technology in nursing education has varied nomenclature, including self-instructional packages and videoconferencing (Männistö et al., 2019). Although there are differences in the application of these digital technologies in nursing, it is universal knowledge that digital learning inherently overcomes drawbacks that traditional classroom teaching had to offer, such as lack of flexibility and geographical limitations (Vallée et al., 2020). Computer-assisted tools in nursing education enable nursing students to access information more conveniently. Its flexibility and adaptability to educational needs are cost-effective, providing more educational opportunities to many students. Furthermore, information and technology in nursing education offer new opportunities for interactive learning experiences.
Despite many literary studies documenting the advantages of digital learning, others provide a different perspective on these technologies. One key factor for digital learning success is affordability and accessibility of computer hardware, software, and stable internet access. Computer proficiency is also another factor. According to research, beginners have been reported to be more stressed and consume more time while using digital technologies (Dalhem et al., 2014). Additionally, not all students have access to digital technologies. Other studies have reported isolation and depression characteristics among students using digital learning technologies without non-verbal cues such as web-based learning.
