Standardization within healthcare is mainly described as the process by which medical services and products are selected by a committee of particular stakeholders, taking into account evidence-based outcomes to promote patient care quality and adhere to fiscal responsibility. I think physician resentment against standardized care originates from having outsiders question clinicians’ decisions and habits. Within this new framework, physicians are losing their professional status. Physicians are being pushed by non-medical leaders and government regulations that make little sense within real-world medical practice. This erodes the vital aspects that make the physician crucial to healthcare. In addition, medicine economics within the standardized care approach re-classified physicians as simply providers and demoted patients to clients. In that way, the language describing the physician-patient engagement is laden with business terminologies that turn physicians into cogs within the healthcare system.
