Personal Philosophy of Nursing
Nursing is the process of performing frontline care for the patients. The nursing process includes the prevention of illness and the promotion of health (Green, 2018). The nursing process deals with examining the patient before the doctors, and other specialists meet the patient for further medication. Philosophical nursing is the type of nursing where the nurse sets certain ethics, beliefs, and values that govern day-to-day nursing activities (Zahavi & Martiny, 2019). The process of philosophy nursing starts with highlighting and recognizing important beliefs for the profession itself. Each nurse needs to have a personal nursing philosophy to guide them throughout their profession. Through the evolution of a personal experience, one can describe a personal nursing philosophy.
Elaborating Story
As a nurse, facing a different patient with different experiences is a normal thing for me. The patient who strikes me most in my profession is a ten-year-old boy admitted with severe pneumonia symptoms. The kid was experiencing chest pains, fever, coughing blood spots, and loss of appetite. The case was important to me because I was responsible for handling the child during his entire sickness. As I was examining the boy, the blood spots prompted me to place Tuberculosis (TB) as one of the suspected causes of the symptoms. Before performing any test in the boy's life, I had to let the parent know the tests we plan for the child. Mentioning the possibility of TB or severe pneumonia in the child made the parent very angry and fearful. The mention of TB made the parent forget the pneumonia part of my statement. I took the responsibility to make the mother understand that TB is not a death sentence. I also calmed her down and made her understand that it is just a medical procedure, and it does not mean the baby must test positive for TB. After the lab test, the boy was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, and the admission process began.
The personality that Impacts Patients in nursing
The personalities of a nurse can work for or against the nursing career. The first personality that works for the nursing career is my caring personality. According to Green (2018), a nurse should always show the patients that they are valuable whenever handling them. The caring attitude makes them create trust, which is very important before establishing the actual patient's sickness. A patient that trusts you is willing to give the tiny details about themselves.
