Introduction
As a nurse administrator, it is increasingly essential to be conversant with a diverse set of leadership models and styles. Leadership in health care is correlated to better decision-making processes, creating an appropriate work environment, effective conflict management, integrity in actions, and effective cultivation of interprofessional teams through guidance and collaboration. A nurse leader offers followers a clear vision, empowers, and motivates them. They show and guide how things should be done within the healthcare organization. In addition, the nurse leaders are the source of admiration, inspiration, and a leadership model for the entire healthcare facility. This paper examines my leadership model, compares it with the servant, emotional, and transformational leadership models, and elaborates on how it prepares me to apply strategies to guide diverse teams and foster interdisciplinary collaboration. The report also describes my worldview and how my professional leadership behaviors inspire others.
Part A: Model of Leadership
Personal Leadership Model
As a nurse leader, I prefer the transformational leadership model to others. According to Specchia et al. (2021), transformational leadership is characterized by effective sharing of information, individualized consideration, charismatic influence, and valorization of relationships. I know how to show loyalty via shared objectives, thus leading to increased productivity, high morale, and staff job satisfaction. Transformational leaders employ idealized inspiration, motivation, influence, intellectual stimulation, as well as individualized consideration to attain superior outcomes. The transformational nurse leader also motivates the followers to exploit their potential and thus achieve greater results than they had originally planned. In addition, transformational leadership inspires followers to see past their interests and to achieve above-expectation results to promote organizational and team interests (Specchia et al., 2021).
Comparing Personal Leadership Model to Servant, Transactional, and Emotional Leadership Models
Transformational and servant leadership styles have characteristics that offer inspiration and guidance. In this context, both leadership styles are people-centered. Transformational leadership emphasizes inspiring followers to work towards the attainment of shared goals. Similarly, servant leadership emphasizes developing and supporting followers within the healthcare organization. Like transformational leadership, servant leaders empower their followers to achieve shared goals and vision. Servant leaders provide the vision to ensure their teams understand the desired outcomes and expectations (Specchia et al., 2021). Regarding differences, servant leaders emphasize serving the followers, clients, and the healthcare facility, while transformational nurse leaders emphasize the organizational objectives.
