Health Promotion in Asian American
Good health is a fundamental element responsible for economic growth in every country. For this reason, the American government has invested billions of dollars in supporting and improving the health system. The immune system contributes highly in determining the strength and response of different people to varied diseases. For instance, Asian people are affected with diabetes differently compared to Hispanic communities. Some communities are more rigid in terms of disease infections compared to others. Thus, race and ethnicity are factors that determine the cost of implementing a health system. This paper aims to analyze and assess, in contrast, form the health status of Asian American people.
Asian American
According to Harvard’s legal profession center 2019, Asian people make up to 5.7 of the USA’s population. They form a large population in the country, and their health status is influenced differently. In most cases, Asian American people are considered healthier than other ethnic groups (Merschel, 2021). Further studies show that age and economic status also influence the health of Asian American people in diverse ways. However, compared to other ethnic groups, such as Hispanic people, their health status does not mean they are not sick. 60% of aged Asian American people have a higher chance of getting diabetes than native Americans and Hispanic people (Hata & Burke, 2020). For example, in 2017, diabetes was a leading cause of death among the Asian American people.
Diabetes is controlled by diet, and some cultural foods in these communities trigger these diseases. The preventive service task force established in 2015 showed that Asian American people were diagnosed with diabetes at early stages in their lives (Harvard Center for Legal profession, 2019). A survey conducted by CDC showed that at least 1.8% of Asian American children had poor health (CDC, 2019). Moreover, 49.4% of men had blood pressure and diabetes. Race and ethnicity have a significant impact on the health status of different communities. For instance, minority groups in America have access to quality health services. Minority groups do not have high incomes, which can facilitate healthy eating and diseases like diabetes (Hata & Burke, 2020).
Health Disparities and Nutrition Challenges
Health disparities include high cost and lack of quality healthcare, poor nutrition, mortality rates, and mental problems. Health disparities affect minority groups due to their racial or ethnic status (CDC, 2020). Notably, health disparities in Asian communities are inequitable, and they are usually associated with unfair distribution of resources. These disparities are usually triggered by inequality in income, environment, and poor access to quality healthcare (CDC, 2020). The Census Bureau survey in 2015-2019 reflected the increasing growth of Asian communities in America. Due to ethnic disparities, Asian communities are usually treated as one group.
