Abstract
Numerous care delivery models have existed to solve problems of care provision to the growing population. One of these models is Campinha-Bacote’s Model of cultural competence. It perceives cultural competence as a continuous process where caregivers constantly strive to work within the client's culture to deliver quality care effectively. The model has five components: cultural knowledge, desire, awareness, encounters, and skill. Upholding these constructs demonstrate cultural competence in nursing.
Personal Philosophy of Culturally Competent Nursing
Cultural competence in nursing is a continuous process in which the caregivers continuously strive to operate within the client's culture to deliver quality care (Wall-Bassett et al., 2018) effectively. Instead of seeing themselves as already culturally competent, this model needs healthcare providers to view themselves as becoming culturally competent. It incorporates cultural knowledge, cultural desire, cultural awareness, cultural encounters, and cultural skills (Wall-Bassett et al., 2018). Altogether, they are known as five constructs of Campinha- Bacote’s model of the cultural competence process in healthcare delivery services.
