To properly diagnose and treat patients, advanced practice nurses must understand both the pathophysiology of disorders and potential maladaptive responses that some disorders cause.
Consider immune disorders such as HIV, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, and systemic lupus E. What are resulting maladaptive responses for patients with these disorders?

Select two of the following immune disorders: HIV, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, or systemic lupus E (SLE).
Identify the pathophysiology of each disorder you selected. Consider the compensatory mechanisms that the disorders trigger. Then compare the resulting maladaptive and physiological responses of the two disorders.
Select one of the following factors: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Reflect on how the factor might impact your selected immune disorders.
Post a brief description of the pathophysiology of your selected immune disorders. Explain how the maladaptive and physiological responses of the two disorders differ. Finally, explain how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of each disorder.

Pathophysiology of Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and Psoriasis Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) describes two chronic inflammatory conditions of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, the Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). These diseases are linked to genetic factors, immunopathology related to abnormal T-cell reactions to commensal microflora, alterations in epithelial cell barrier functions, different luminal antigens, and varying phenotypes (Huether & McCance, 2017). UC is a chronic inflammatory disease, which causes ulceration of the colonic mucosa and even affects the rectum and colon .The mucous layer is thinner than normal in patients with UC and the epithelial barrier is impaired, and the GI mucosal lining in CD has discontinuous, narrowed, thick patches, and there are fibrosis, fissures, granulomas, lesions, strictures and ulcerations. Psoriasis is a chronic and inflammatory disorders mainly a skin manifestation, which also affects the scalp and nails. Psoriasis is a T-helper (Th) cell–mediated autoimmune disease where the abnormal T-cells are activated.
