Asthma describes a condition in which the airway is obstructed, and the affected individual experiences challenges with breathing. In most cases, asthma manifests as narrowing and swelling of the airway. In addition, the affected individual may have their airways producing extra mucus. Based on these observations, one can conclude that asthma directly affects the respiratory system. Experts argue that asthma may not be cured but can be effectively managed (Dharmage et al., 2019). Further, research has also revealed that asthma changes over time. Therefore, it is important to monitor the condition so that the control measures can be adjusted accordingly.
As described above, asthma directly affects the respiratory system. With narrowed airways, the affected person will be left gasping for air. This condition may explain why a person experiencing an asthma attack may produce wheezing sounds. Insufficient air supply to the lungs may be greatly detrimental to a person’s health and wellbeing.
