1. Teams face various significant challenges during collaboration. The first challenge is painful meetings, which turn out to be a waste of time and effort (Hall, 2018). Although all the collaborators may be present, they do not have any productive discussions towards the anticipated topic or area. Hall (2018) argues that handling personality clashes are also a challenge during collaboration. The other possible challenge is tackling poor performance to enact improvement towards achieving the set goals and objectives (Hall, 2018). According to Hall (2018), lack of trust among the team members is also a primary challenge in collaboration. While the group should work as a team towards a similar goal, lack of trust hinders excellent performance (Jones, Holton, & Jowitt, 2016). On the other hand, building collaboration is a challenge for the team members and their leaders (Hall, 2018). Lastly, lack of delegation poses a significant challenge to the team members (Hall, 2018). They could not be aware of what they are supposed to do after every step of their work.
Leaders need to overcome the challenges if they desire and expect the teams to deliver. They should take the pain out of the meetings through planning by having clear agendas and using time effectively (Hall, 2018). Next, they should enact an effective working relationship among the members to ensure minimization, if not eradicating, the personality clashes (Jones, Holton, & Jowitt, 2016). The relationship should only focus on what should be done. Leaders should deal with poor performance early enough to ensure it does not affect the team (Hall, 2018). According to Hall (2018), the team should focus on developing a strong collaboration to support each other in delivering the expected quality through ways like the development of creative solutions during a crisis. Jones, Holton, & Jowitt (2016) argue that team members should build trust among themselves. Trust is an important aspect of collaboration, and leaders should ensure their approach induces the aspect and a teamwork spirit for the success of the collaboration. Hall (2018) reveals that leaders’ excellent delegation by learning to accept and involve the team members results in high performance. Thus, leaders should not do everything themselves but should involve and let the teamwork together.
2. Successful collaborations are not just a matter of building and having the team on board. They require establishing and maintaining a high degree of trust, collegiality, fairness, and accountability. Thus, the teams can achieve the building of strong collaborations in various ways.
