Parents sometimes face tough choices when it comes to the healthcare needs of their children. In particular, low-income parents may have challenges affording the cost of healthcare services. They may not have adequate resources to pay for medical care and still manage to cover other health necessities like food and clothing. When parents struggle to make ends meet, they may delay or deny their children medical care. If a family lacks adequate health insurance, they may encounter out-of-pocket costs for their children’s healthcare.
No parent wants to deny or delay their children's medical coverage. However, when parents are pushed to the limit because of economic challenges, this becomes the only option.
