Qualitative data is sometimes overwhelming to the researcher because of its unstructured and voluminous nature. However, a researcher can apply particular methods to manage and organize the data making it useful for analysis. The first requirement is to make the data easily searchable then convert it into structured data that the researcher can analyze using quantitative techniques.
In the beginning, the researcher should ensure that the data is accurate and of sufficient quality for analysis. Secondly, he/she can feed documents to full-text search engines that enable easy retrieval of data such as Lucene or CAQDAS packages (Catterall & Maclaran, 2011). These search engines can also support indexing of video, maps, images, and other media documents, enabling the researcher to file qualitative data to support quantitative analysis.
