Nursing interventions are described as actions performed by a nurse as part of a medical team to improve a patient's condition (Butcher et al., 2018). Nurses rely on their training to decide which interventions are best for their patients.
The three levels that nursing interventions are divided into are the primary, secondary and tertiary interventions. Primary interventions are measures taken before a disease or injury happens (Grace Ho, 2013). In this case, a good example would be proper education of people on correct forms of sanitation practices, e.g., personal hygiene, good garbage, sewage disposal, etc. This helps in the prevention of outbreaks of bacterial diseases such as cholera.
Secondary interventions regarding this disaster can help reduce the negative impact of the disaster on the affected community—for example, following up on treated injured patients to prevent wound infection (Grace Ho, 2013). Lastly, tertiary interventions are molded to meet people’s long-term requirements after the disaster has been resolved. An example is creating a safe space where people can learn positive coping mechanisms (Grace Ho, 2013).
