The process of treatment is expensive and in some instances, depending on the stage, it is impossible to treat. The principle of cancer treatment is early detection before it spreads to other body organs and establishes itself. Despite early detection, complications may arise, which in some cases are fatal and grave. Cancer Diagnosis and Staging             A cancer detection can be delayed for a significant amount of period if the doctor/clinician treats the patients’ complaints with drugs for recurring symptoms. A thorough physical and examination checkup for recurring symptoms should be done instead of drug prescriptions. A definitive diagnosis can be obtained from a patient who has recurring symptoms, if a biopsy is conducted for recurring lesions (Krans, 2017). There are numerous symptoms for cancer, which manifest themselves differently in the early and late stages. The biopsy of the tissue provides a definitive diagnosis. Biopsy punches or surgical scalpels are used to obtain biopsies under local anesthesia. Whereas excision biopsy involves complete removal of the lesion, incision biopsy is the removal of the representative sample of the lesion (Ladas, & Kelly, 2012).  Imaging tests like CT scans and X-rays are crucial in identifying the lumps or abnormal growth, but they hardly differentiate between noncancerous and cancerous cells. The request for biopsy does not mean that one has cancer. Through biopsy, the lump or abnormal cell growth can be categorized as cancerous or non-cancerous. After the biopsy, the doctor advises the patient based on the lab report. If the cancer has been detected, the doctor informs the patient about the type and the aggression level. If the result is negative and the clinician has doubts, a different type of biopsy can be conducted to eliminate the doubts. The stage of cancer at the time of diagnosis is critical as it defines the prognosis and also essential in prescribing the appropriate treatment based on outcomes and experiences of prior patients. Accurate staging is crucial in evaluating the clinical trials and results of the treatment. There are several staging systems across the world. Tumor Node Metastasis (TNM) is the most clinically useful staging system. TNM is supported jointly by the UICC (International Union for Cancer Control) and the AJCC (American Joint Committee on Cancer) (Compton, et al., 2012). The TNM categorizes cancer by the expanse of the predominant tumor and the size, the role of the sectional lymph node and absence or existence of the remote metastases.
