Assessment Description
While the implementation plan prepares students to apply their research to the problem or issue they have identified for their capstone project change proposal, the literature review enables students to map out and move into the active planning and development stages of the project.
A literature review analyzes how current research supports the PICOT, as well as identifies what is known and what is not known in the evidence. Students will use the information from the earlier PICOT Question Paper and Literature Evaluation Table assignments to develop a 750-1,000 word review that includes the following sections:
Title page
Introduction section
A comparison of research questions
A comparison of sample populations
A comparison of the limitations of the study
A conclusion section, incorporating recommendations for further research
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Literature Review: Nurse Shortage and Retention in Pediatric Home Health Introduction Nursing shortage is a major healthcare human resource problem affecting healthcare providers across the diverse patient care settings worldwide. Nursing shortage has an overall implication of reducing the quality of patient care delivered by both the nursing care practitioners and the healthcare facilities within which they work. Its major contributing factor is the high nurse turnover rates witnessed across different healthcare systems globally. The high nurse turnover rates are further influenced by factors such as low job satisfaction among nurses, inadequate career development opportunities, migration into other professions, and poor working environments. According to a survey conducted by Weaver (2018), parents missed an average of 23 hours of employments weekly to attend to the nursing care needs of the ailing children due nursing shortage from the high nurse turnovers witnessed in pediatric home medical care. Pediatric home nursing shortage exposes children and their families to a wide range of negative effects such as disrupting the implementation of the pediatric palliative care plans for ailing children and their families. In essence, the high rates of nurse turnover limit the ability of pediatric home healthcare providers to deliver quality patient care to children and their families. It is, therefore, imperative for nursing leaders and managers to develop effective interventional measures toward addressing the high nurse turnover in pediatric home healthcare and increase nurse retention towards ensuring the delivery of quality patient care. Provided herein is a literature review on current research on the human resource problem of high nurse turnover in pediatric home healthcare and its implications on children through the lens of the PICOT statement mentioned herein below.   PICOT The high turnover and increased retention rate in pediatric home health nurses is leaving many medically fragile children without home health nurses, causing an increase in hospital ER visits compared to low retention and fully staffed pediatric home health cases. A Comparison of Research Questions According to Xu (2020) and colleagues, China’s high turnover intention in its pediatric tertiary hospital and the intent to leave the profession among Chinese pediatric nurses is mostly influenced by the calling. The researchers arrive to this conclusion by working around three research questions. Among the research questions included whether there are any differences in pediatric nurses’ turnover intention across the equally diverse socio-demographic factors characterizing the nursing population under study (Xu, 2020). The researchers also posed another question seeking to establish a link between low job satisfaction and weak calling to pediatric nurses’ turnover intention (Xu, 2020). The third research question posed by the researchers focused on determining whether or not job satisfaction mediates the relationship between calling and nurse turnover intention (Xu, 2020). On the other hand, Weaver (2018) investi...
