Do you believe you have the traits to be an effective leader? Perhaps you are already in a supervisory role, but as has been discussed previously, appointment does not guarantee leadership skills.
How can you evaluate your own leadership skills and behaviors? You can start by analyzing your performance in specific areas of leadership. In this Discussion, you will complete Gallup’s StrengthsFinder assessment. This assessment will identify your personal strengths, which have been shown to improve motivation, engagement, and academic self-conference. Through this assessment, you will discover your top five themes—which you can reflect upon and use to leverage your talents for optimal success and examine how the results relate to your leadership traits.
To Prepare:
Complete the StrengthsFinder assessment instrument, per the instructions found in this Module's Learning Resources.

Leadership remains critical since so much depends on it. Leaders go beyond their positions and appointments to inspire action among the followers. For instance, being appointed to a particular position does not imply leadership skills (Aldrin & Gayatri, 2014). Over the years, I have worked on my leadership traits. I do not need a supervisory role to lead people well. My leadership skills and behaviors have allowed me to become an effective leader. The StrengthsFinder assessment instrument identifies my strengths. Through the assessment, I have discovered strengths I possess that enhance my leadership skills. In the nursing field, clients and colleagues do not want to deal with a mere expert, rather a leader who will show direction. In addition to my professional qualifications, leadership traits have given me the upper hand in dealing with people.
My “Top 5 Signature Themes of Talent” are restorative, significance, relator, strategic, and activator. Restorative implies that I love solving problems. As a leader, I do not shy away from addressing issues when they emerge. During challenges, I always seek to get things back to life. When I encounter a challenge, I remain optimistic that things will go back to normality. Significance fits me since I endeavor to remain outstanding in whatever I do. As a leader, I want my followers to appreciate the things I do. I hate mediocrity and strive to remain exceptional in everything I do. My search for significance allows individuals to recognize me and my work. This assists in gaining inspiring trust among the followers.
