Yes, my peer has described the nature and prevalence of the selected trauma, trauma symptoms, and a relevant client scenario, discussed appropriate therapeutic approaches, addressed the need for possible psychopharmacologic interventions and collaboration, and recommended other psychotherapeutic approaches. The nature and prevalence of the selected trauma, sexual assault, were discussed in detail. It was noted that prevalence estimates vary depending on the population studied and that approximately one out of five women and one out of twenty-one men suffer from and experience sexual assault in their lifetime. Trauma symptoms vary significantly depending on the individual. They can include difficulty sleeping, frequent nightmares, hyper-vigilance, difficulty concentrating, hyper-arousal, intrusive memories, avoidance of triggers, dissociation, depression, and anxiety, as outlined by Dworkin (2020).
A relevant client scenario was provided, and appropriate therapeutic approaches were discussed. It was noted that relevant therapeutic approaches include providing a safe and trusting environment for the client to process their trauma, psycho-education about trauma and its effects, trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR, cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal therapies, and addressing any issues of self-care.
