Having a master's degree in nursing prepares nurses to have better clinical decision-making and critical thinking when providing patient care. According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) (2011), one of the essentials of a master's education in nursing is ensuring that nurses have a master's-level nursing practice that involves advanced knowledge of nursing and an ability to apply this knowledge in day-to-day nursing practice. As such, nurses with a master's degree in nursing should be competent in their various areas of practice. This is the only way they can meet the diverse needs of a diverse population without leaving anything to chance.
